Why this benchmark exists
SEO tools draw from different databases and expose different proprietary scores. Benchmark #1 documents what SE Ranking and Mangools returned on the same fixed inputs. It is not a permanent league table and it has no independent ground truth for volume, difficulty, estimated traffic, or backlink totals.
Frozen design
The dataset contained 25 keywords: ten controls related to existing SelectVerdict funnel-software content and fifteen SEO-tool commercial terms. The six deep-dive queries were “systeme io review,” “systeme io pricing,” “clickfunnels alternatives,” “se ranking vs mangools,” “best affordable seo tools,” and “best rank tracking tools.”
We tracked selectverdict.com and researched selectverdict.com, semrush.com, ahrefs.com, and moz.com. The primary environment was Google, United States, Desktop, with English where exposed.
Coverage result
| Module | SE Ranking | Mangools |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword research | 25 submitted; 23 data + 2 no-data | 25/25 imported and exported |
| SERP deep-dives | 6/6 with 10 rows | 1 full top-10, 2 partial, 3 unavailable |
| Rank tracking | 25 configured; 24 rows | 25 configured; 0 ranks at poll |
| Domain research | 4/4 | 4/4 SiteProfiler |
| Backlink research | 4/4 | 4/4 LinkMiner |
| Direct cost | $0 | $0 |
Coverage is not accuracy. It reports which outputs were available during the verification windows.
What disagreed
Search volume differed on most comparable rows, sometimes materially. Backlink counts also disagreed: SE Ranking returned zero backlinks and referring domains for selectverdict.com, while Mangools returned three active backlinks and three referring domains. We retained both results.
KD, paid competition, InLink Rank, DA, PA, CF, TF, and WPR remain separately labeled. Similar-looking values are not declared equivalent.
What was missing or limited
- SE Ranking returned two explicit keyword no-data responses and one rank row remained unavailable.
- Mangools reached the observed allowance after three SERP exports; two were partial and three fixed queries remained unavailable.
- Mangools returned no rank values during the final poll.
- The SE Ranking plan name and complete human labor for both asset cycles remained unknown.
None of these states was silently converted to zero.
Workflow observations
SE Ranking's completed run used official APIs because the browser route hit human verification. It required throttling after HTTP 429 and correction of one implementation field name. Mangools used the authenticated browser interface; keyword CSV export was direct, while SERP expansion consumed the finite allowance.
These are dated workflow observations, not objective usability scores.
Four conclusions from Benchmark #1
- The same keyword can produce materially different database estimates.
- Plan quotas and processing time can determine whether an available feature yields same-session evidence.
- Proprietary difficulty and authority metrics should remain under their original labels.
- Module-level tradeoffs are more honest than a single aggregate winner.
Known limitations
This was one observation date. Live SERPs were not simultaneous. SE Ranking used APIs and Mangools used its Free+ browser UI. No paid subscription was purchased, no independent truth set was introduced, and affiliate economics did not influence the technical comparison.
